Sony reader to the rescue

  • Oct. 31st, 2009 at 8:34 PM

Yes, yes, yes!  Doing the happy dance at my house this week.  The new Sony reader works perfectly with the fan fiction I saved as Word documents.  No more schlepping massive sheaves of paper printouts with me when I want to read a torchwood story away from my computer.  Plus, I bet this is less expensive in the long run, not having to buy paper and ink...more ink and did I mention ink.  Transfer to reader and voila, read anywhere I please.  First up was a re-read of all the merucha stories I had saved, next up Attrition.  Now that I know this works I'll have to go out hunting and gathering stories again, just not ready for those post COE without Ianto. :(

I so bad...

  • Oct. 26th, 2009 at 9:32 PM

Well, just a few weeks ago I discovered the joys of ipod ownership.  Last week I spent saving my audio cd collection to iTunes...all +600 of them.  They're just like rabbits, I had no idea there were that many.  They must have been breeding, I couldn't have bought all of them.  I also discovered that and 8G ipod can not hold a 95G music collection!  Oh woe is me, now I have to pick and choose what to have at my beck and call.

Then, over the weekend Staples put temptation in my path again.  I've been a good girl saving my Staples gift cards and redeeming my ink cartridges to save up for a Sony e reader.  Well, they pushed me over the edge with a 10% off coupon and I picked mine up on the way to work.  I've got it registered and the new baby is charging beside me.  All this just so I can read my Torchwood fan fiction away from the computer and not be awash in print copies of the stories.  I guess I will justify this by saying I'm saving trees....

Ipod and me

  • Oct. 14th, 2009 at 11:17 PM

Can I possibly be that out of touch *age impaired* that I didn't really equate an ipod as an mp3 player...I guess so.  After wearing out my second cd player at work I took the plunge with the help of a very kind Walmart clerk and purchased a nice shiny ipod touch *very shiny*.  Sadly, I've discovered how much music I have and how little 8G really is.  So on to loading all my cds on iTunes and I can pick and choose what to load.

Good think I have vacation next week.  OMG this has temporarily suplanted Torchwood as my obsession.  But, this will be a totally awesome way to listen to the audio books *happy dance*.

Finally, a little good tv news.  Primeval has been uncanceled *yeah* and will be co-produced by BBC America and ITV.  Next up a 13 episode series...

Now, if we could just get some good news for Torchwood and Ianto I would be a very happy camper and stop sticking pins in my RTD doll:)

There has just got to be a special place in hell for management at my workplace...and I hope they go there soon.

My laugh of the day was the last time I took a look at my Netflix queue and saw that we must all have taken RTD's kindly words of guidance to heart.  Supernatural disk 1 was on long wait status.  No, I have not forgiven or forgotten yet...

Well 2009 continues to live down to my worst fears.  It's been a little over a week since my wonderful employer terminated two long time employees in what I can only call a 'witch hunt'.  I know they have attorneys and I hope they sue and the settlement is so large that they don't even have to give a passing though to future jobs.

The company continues to look upon employees as some kind of chattel that hasn't any rights and it's long time it stopped.  This isn't a privately owned company and I wonder if the board of directors really know what management is doing.

What Planet Does Your Name Come From?

Your Name Comes From Neptune
You are able to adapt to any situation, surroundings, or groups. You are highly flexible.
You tend to hang back and observe before you show your cards. Because of this, you are often seen as mysterious.

You are very intuitive and sensitive. You have a deep understanding of the world, even though the world doesn't understand you.
At times you feel like you could be psychic. You read people that well.

Ianto's return

  • Aug. 18th, 2009 at 8:31 PM

Run over to Dreamwidth and check the journal of shadowfiction.  They just posted this wonderful story "Shift".  It has such a good plot for Ianto's return to both the living and Cardiff.  The author has caught all the characters just right and I would love to see this as the first episode of series 4.  Yes, it's that good that if RTD would have something this well written and plotted I would almost forgive him being a major pain in the ass arrogant bastard *oops regressed there a bit, sorry*.

Well, anyhow this made me smile with Torchwood goodness.  Oh, no Jack yet...so I can't credit Janto smut for the smile.

It's the little things in life that now amuse me.  Several days ago I saw some new icons done by gogo_didi and there was a Cyberman with text about looking for RTD.  I got a nice chuckle from it and thought, gee wouldn't a Dalek be super.  So, fortunately for me I now have, complements of gogo_didi, my very own Dalek.

Oh, Mr. Davies someone at the door for you....
.....see simple minds are easily amused :D

Wait a minute...as I'm having my cuppa this morning I'm hit by a funny thought.  At Comic Con I believe someone mentioned that John Simm is returning to Doctor Who as the Master.  Did I hit my head or something, isn't the Master dead and doesn't the all powerful *bows down* RTD say "dead is dead".

OMG, I must have gone to sleep last night and woken up in a parallel universe because RTD is SO consistent in his comments and his DW and Torchwood universe.  Hah!

You know it's funny but the last week or so my thoughts have turned to tv *duh* not just Torchwood, but tv programming in general.  While on the journey down memory lane I paused to think of some of the good, bad and indifferent shows I spent my time watching.

Yes, I am of the generation where "join us at the same bat-time on the same bat-station" was an exciting thing.  We only had 3 networks to watch, so watch you did and didn't worry about quality.  We only wanted to be entertained.  So, as I look back in retrospect I do know what bad or at least camp tv looks like.  I remember being excited of the premise of "Quantum Leap" and the topics it brought up to both entertain and provoke at least a little thought.  I've seen programs self implode with actor problems (Moonlighting and Remington Steele).  I've seen actors think their careers should take them in a different direction only to disappear from view (McLean Stevenson - Henry Blake from MASH).

I do remember very vividly how fresh and exciting I though the original Doctor Who program was when I first heard about it.  It was probably the early to mid 1980's and our local PBS station was adding it to the regular lineup.  The write up described the history of the program and the previous actors who played the Doctor.  I was struck by how wonderful this must be from a producers stand point.  "Oh, you want to leave the show, fine" regeneration and there was a new doctor.  Not like on daytime tv where we had to pretend not to notice yesterday a different actor was playing that character.  The regeneration was part of the series background.  Brilliant idea!  I was, of course, immediately hooked and was a faithful viewer to the point of catching newer episodes on a channel we barely got and 11:00 at night when I should have been sleeping so I was fit for work the next day.  It was a sad day for me when the BBC finally canceled the show during Sylvester McCoy's tenure.  When I heard it was coming back I wasn't expecting much and didn't really know if I wanted to commit to the fickle nature of a weekly program.  Apparently my personal preference in tv programs runs to the show that will be immediately canceled and that had happened so often that I abandoned regular tv in favor of old movies.  At least they will never cancel "Mildred Pierce" or "Gone With the Wind".

I am rambling, but I do have a point.  When RTD brought back Doctor Who I didn't immediately notice that he really only reinvented the wheel, not much ground breaking only getting credit for the work already done by others.  Yet, we held him in such high regard...till now.  I've seen other programs he has worked on and only "Bob and Rose" to me is better quality work.  Sad, my acceptance of mediocrity blinded me to the truth.  I can see a bright side to Torchwood, it brought me to lj and an incredible group of creative people here.  So, maybe I should be grateful to RTD for at least one thing.

Oooh, lucky me I found a shiny new tv series...okay maybe not really new, but new to me.  Netflix delivered season one of Eureka.  Very cute, funny series.  No one has died yet, hurry!  But, I'm sure now that I've discovered the show it will promptly be canceled. =)

Comic Con 2009 is over and few reviews have been posted regarding the Torchwood panel.  MSN.com doesn't even give it a mention.  Some are cool with what was said, I'm glad they will be able to move on.  Me, I'll carry a grudge against RTD till it breaks my back.  I still have to say I think he did this in mean spirit and is totally enjoying the drama he has created.

But, the quirky thing about this is I don't think he's smart enough to just shut the fuck up.  He's here in America and we all know we aren't the most civilized people.  I think back to different actors and the stalkers they have gathered and one particular actress (can't quite remember the name) was actually killed by hers.  Everyone keeps telling us that we are rabid fans, who more likely to go postal than someone from such a group.  I still hope that the BBC wrests control of the show from his clammy hands and tries to undo the havoc.  I mean some of the RTD's comments have just been too much 'go watch Supernatural'.  I'm sure the BBC is loving that.

Another though is I see that GDL has committed for an event next February, that's over six months from now.  If he's not part of Torchwood anymore I could see doing a function closer in time, but that's a long time from now.  For all he knows he might have something else scheduled.  I'd like to think this is all part of RTD warped sense of humor (does he in fact have one?) and that series four will give us Ianto back.  Of course I was hoping for Tosh and Owen back in series 3.  I guess I'm the eternal optimist *idiot that I am*.

Well interesting news from Comic Con.  BBC America announces that Torchwood has been picked up for season 4 *yawn*.  Who cares, according to the post comments, the fans don't.  RTD I guess you will just have to replace many of the dedicated fans, beside you told us to all go watch Supernatural *was that telling us to all go fuck ourselves if we didn't agree with your awesome vision*.

My thoughts keep going back to the theme that Torchwood agents die young.  Well, who would have been the most likely person to fall victim to that?  Me thinks it would have been the very limited in experience Gwen.  She didn't strike me as a ball of fire police officer, more 'bring us a tea and keep the people back' kind of officer.  When she arrives at Torchwood all of a sudden she's a rocket scientist with super instincts.  Sorry, in the 'real' world she would have been destined for a vault drawer in short order.

After seeing RTD's comments to EW.com, someone kindly posted the link over at Torchwood Institute.  I can't help but thinking of Marie Antoinette and the quote most often associated with her.  "Let them eat cake", well whether she said it or not she caused an uproar and eventually lost her head over things.  Now, I'm not saying cut off RTD's head...you know how hard it is to get your hands on a guillotine when you need one.  I'm just saying the more his arrogance grows and he tries to talk down to the fans, the more we reject him for his attitude.

How dare he tell me what to watch and how to react to what I watch.  He comes out as an A1 bastard in my book.

I do look forward to the reports of Comic Con from this weekend. :D

Well *hands shaking* I have survived 24 hours without computer, internet access or Torchwood news.  As with John, I believe I will fail this rehab.  The good thing is my brand new speedy computer with 2 hard drives *whoo hoo* and more bells and whistles than I can shake a stick at.  Well, worth the wait.

Off to finish watching my "Life on Mars" marathon, down to the last episode.  Will Sam make it home or not...

...and the price of COE on Amazon just keeps dropping and dropping.  Me thinks they might have stocked a bit high.  Reviews are a bit harsh, I wonder why.

Plan of action again this evening is watching...no not Torchwood, but Life on Mars.  Yes, this has been on the stack of dvds for quite a while and last night's episode was more entertaining than I expected.

I know one person boycotting BBC America is not much but if this is how the show is heading I guess I'd better start to wean myself off slowly, starting now.

I didn't see as much feedback on last night's episode as I expected.  I guess many of us here in the US cheated and watched when originally broadcast in the UK.  Well off to salad and tv.

Well, let's see it's the big day for COE here in the US.  Whatever shall I watch...hmmm...I think anything but COE.  I have some nice films from Netfix that are just dying for viewing and plus I've just upgraded my DSL service and can watch something over the net.

As you may guess I'm still a bit peeved that RTD's parting gift before leaving the UK was to break his Torchwood toys so no one else could play with them.  I'm equally annoyed with the BBC for aiding and abetting him.

Yes, yes I get that working for Torchwood is tough, life expectancy is short.  We lost Suzie, saw what happen to Alex's team, then Tosh and Owen.  If I wanted to see that level of continued death I would read the damn newspaper, listen to the radio and watch the freaking news.  We don't have to watch scifi to see this, we watch scifi to be "entertained".
